Connecticut possums are marsupials that are found mainly in North America. They are scavengers and will eat whatever they are able to find in their environment. This makes them especially annoying to have around your home. They will go through garbage cans, eat compost and even enter chicken coops to eat the eggs. If they are given the opportunity, they will also enter your home. They are particularly troublesome to have in your garden as they will eat and trample your plants. Keeping them away from your home would be a good idea, as they will continue the destruction once they enter.



What are Greenwich opossums?
They are sometimes called possums, even though possums are not found in North America. They are medium-sized marsupials that are about the same size as a cat. They carry their young in a pouch, meaning that if they are in your garden during the mating season there is a good chance that the female has babies on her.

Opossum hearing
A Connecticut opossum has very bad hearing and eyesight. This means that a device based on them being bothered by the sound would not be effective. Once your house has a distinct opossum smell, it would not help to put a high pitch sound machine in the area. The sound would not make the opossum leave the area. If there is an area without the sound ,it may prefer it, but it will take what is available.

High pitch sound machines
High-frequency sound machines are designed with the premise that the sound will be annoying to animals. The sound that it produces is too high to be heard by humans. Some animals are deterred by it, but most animals don’t even hear the frequency that it broadcasts. It is thought to produce a noise that is painful for most animals to hear. This is believed to keep them away from the area by disorienting them, causing them to flee.

Does it work?
None of the experiments conducted has proven fruitful. Greenwich opossums either do not hear the sound or do not care. Their ability to “play possum” also enables them to faint and be unconscious for hours at a time. When they are in this state, they will be unable to hear anything. As these machines tend to be expensive, it is better to save your money to spend on something that has a proven track record.
